- May have prior swim experience
- Good body position
- Over-dominant kick (strong and continuous)
- Often lacks body rotation
- Not faster proportionally with kickboard
- Relatively slow with pull buoy and kick board (compared to swim)
- Often breathless
- Threshold pace: 1:25 – 2:15 / 100m
