Blind Swimming

Purpose: to improve your ability to sight and swim in a straight line

Pointers: maintain fluid strokes, don't worry about hitting lane ropes (they don't hit back)

  • Swim freestyle with your eyes completely closed.
  • Every 5th stroke, raise your head following your breath and look straight forward as when “sighting” in open water.
  • Without breaking the rhythm of your stroke, immediately close your eyes, put your head down, and continue swimming (correcting your direction as necessary).
