Your "age" is one of the key factors in how you are likely to respond to different training. Your training plan uses three different "ages": Age, Sport Age, Training Age.
Age - This is your normal age--how old you are.
Sport Age - This is how long you've been training in a particular discipline.
Training Age - This is your 'functional' training age calculated by subtracting a portion of your Sport Age from your normal Age. i.e. A 45-year-old person with a Sport Age of 15 years can handle more training than a 45-year-old who is new to training. This 45-year-old may have a Training Age of 38.
The impact of Sport Age diminishes as your Sport Age and normal Age increase.
